I heard him as I stepped off the train. The notes of his guitar and the timbre of his voice. My shoulders relaxed, and I rounded the corner, stopping to look at him. He was in his usual spot, his gaze locked where he knew I would appear. He smiled, his dimple showing, and he directed his voice my way. I approached the bench, knowing he expected me to sit and listen to him before we left. It was his gift to me. I spied Brianna sitting, staring at him in awe, and I crossed to where she was seated.
âHey,â I greeted her.
She looked up and yanked on my sleeve. âOh my god, sit down. Listen to this guy. He is amazing!â
I tried not to laugh. âYes, he is.â
âI havenât been able to move. Heâs mesmerizing. Is he here a lot?â she asked, not taking her eyes off him.
âYes.
âIâm moving. I need to be at this station every day, then.â She glanced over at me. âI mean, seriously. He is hot.â
I sighed, meeting his gaze. âHe is. He makes every day better.â He winked and smiled, and I couldnât help my returning grin.
She glanced at Logan, then back at me. âHoly shit.â
âWhat?â
âThatâs him?â she breathed out. âThatâs the unapproved man?â
I hummed in reply, not wanting to miss a moment of Loganâs song.
Logan stopped playing and, in seconds, strode toward us. He set down his guitar case and bent, brushing his mouth over mine. âHello, my Snow Queen.â
âHi,â I whispered.
âOh my god,â Brianna groaned.
I chuckled and introduced them. Logan shook her hand, and she gazed up at him. âWhat are you doing playing in a subway station?â
He responded by cupping my cheek and stroking my face with his thumb. âI play for her.â
Brianna sighed. âIâm going to get dinner, and Iâll meet you at your place.â She stood and wagged her finger at me. âYou have a lot to tell me, and you donât get to leave a word out.â
Logan tugged on my hand. âWeâll walk with you. Itâs dark, and you shouldnât be out alone.â
She stared at him as if he were a figment of her imagination. âSexy, talented, and a gentleman? My god, youâve hit the jackpot, Lottie.â
I stood, and we walked behind her. I squeezed Loganâs hand. âYes, I have.â
Over spicy beef and sticky, delicious noodles, Brianna grilled Logan. What he did. Where he grew up. How we met. What grade he taught. Where he lived. I was currently laughing at her last question. Asked with her chin propped up in one hand, the other clutching an egg roll.
âDo you happen to have a twin brother? Even an older one. Iâd take him.â
Logan chuckled as he chewed a dripping wonton, wiping the sweet-and-sour sauce off his lips. He swallowed and picked up his water glass, shaking his head. âJust me.â
âDamn. Any spare DNA around? Maybe we could make one.â
He choked as he laughed, meeting my eyes with a wink. âBit young for you, then, Brianna.â
âDamn it, youâre right. Okay, friends who like to follow your example?â
He grinned.
